ROBERT A. MORIN

Since June 2017, Robert (Bob) Morin has been the Managing Director, Transaction and Business Development Leader of the Aircraft Finance Insurance Consortium (AFIC).  AFIC is the groundbreaking collaboration between Marsh and a panel of highly rated global insurance companies to offer a new way to protect the financing of purchases of Boeing and Embraer commercial aircraft.  Despite being in existence for just six years, AFIC has closed on, or been mandated on, more than 100 aircraft aggregating more than US$6 billion in financings.

Prior to assuming his role at AFIC shortly after its launch, Mr. Morin was the Senior Vice President of Business and Product Development at the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank), a position he held since 2014.  Before serving in that role, Mr. Morin was Vice President of EXIM Bank’s Transportation Division for more than 15 years. During his time leading the Transportation Division, Mr. Morin oversaw the successful expansion of EXIM Bank’s aircraft financing program, as it grew from a portfolio of approximately 300 aircraft to more than 1,100 commercial aircraft financed for airlines and aircraft leasing companies around the world and totaling more than $50 billion in EXIM Bank loan guarantees.

In addition, as Vice President of the Transportation Division, Mr. Morin was responsible for pioneering innovative new products and initiatives including EXIM Bank’s hugely successful capital markets product, which has been responsible for more than $26 billion of funding for EXIM Bank guaranteed financings.

Mr. Morin was a member of the U.S. delegation to the OECD that negotiated both the 2007 Aircraft Sector Understanding and the 2011 Aircraft Sector Understanding, which established the guidelines for all export credit-supported aircraft financings.  In addition, Mr. Morin was a member of the U.S. delegation responsible for developing and negotiating the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Aircraft Equipment.  Mr. Morin also played a leading role in working with airlines and governments around the world to encourage countries to ratify and implement the Cape Town Treaty; such effort included the development of the Cape Town Treaty Discount in export credit-supported aircraft financings offered by all of the leading export credit agencies involved in aircraft financings.

Prior to joining EXIM Bank, Mr. Morin was associated with the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy in New York, where he represented banks and other financial institutions in international financings, including cross-border aircraft financings.  Mr. Morin has degrees from the Columbia University School of Law and the Wharton School of Business and is a certified public accountant and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York.

Mr. Morin and his wife Anne live in Washington, D.C. and they have three children David, John and Emily.

プレゼンテーションでは、最近の航空会社の倒産やリストラクチャリングを考慮し、不払い保険がローンレンダーや投資家を保護した事例を検証する。また、投資家にとっての重要なプラクティスも紹介する。

Considering recent airline bankruptcies and restructurings, this presentation will examine a case study of where non-payment insurance had protected lenders and investors. It will also look at key best practice for investors.
